Choose the right type of lock for your gate
To make your choice easier, we have put together a short guide to our most common lock types:
- Gate latch: The classic choice for wooden gates and fences. Provides a smooth and traditional closing that can often be operated with one hand.
- Sliding bolt: A robust and quick way to secure the gate. Excellent for both single gates and as a stabilising reinforcement on a double gate.
- Hasp and staple: The obvious choice when you want to secure your gate with a padlock, for example on a shed or a rear driveway.
Choosing the right material is crucial for the lock to last outdoors year after year. For a traditional look, many choose a black gate latch, while hot-dip galvanised steel is a robust and maintenance-free standard choice for, for example, a gate hook. In an extra weather-exposed environment, stainless steel details are the safest choice.
