What is a rim latch?

This is a locking fitting where a hinged plate folds over a staple or eye. The design is used to lock lids on chests or close doors in a more concealing way than an ordinary hasp. The fitting combines decorative style with function for both furniture and outdoor structures.

Installation

Attach the hinged plate to the door or lid.

Fit the staple to the frame so that the parts meet in a straight line.

Pre-drill the holes in the wood to avoid cracking.

Screw the parts in place and check that the plate falls smoothly over the loop.
